5 Reasons to Consider a Massachusetts Travel Nursing Job
With so much history, shopping, culture, and great medical facilities, Massachusetts should be near the top of your travel nurse shortlist for more than one reason. In fact, here are five reasons to consider a Massachusetts travel nursing job for your next assignment.
1. WALK BOSTON’S FREEDOM TRAIL
Boston’s top attraction is the 2.5-mile Freedom Trail, with a red stripe marking the journey that leads through some of the city’s most historic neighborhoods. It passes 16 important Revolutionary War sites, offering the chance to get a fascinating history lesson and some good exercise at the same time, traveling from Boston Common through the historic downtown, the North End, and ending at the Charlestown waterfront.
2. CATCH A RED SOX GAME AT LEGENDARY FENWAY PARK
As the oldest ball park in the major leagues, Fenway Park in Boston is the ultimate destination for just about every baseball fan. Even if you aren’t a big fan of the game, just being there makes for a great time. Mingle with Bostonians, enjoy a hot dog and beer, and maybe even see the team battle their main rival, the New York Yankees. If your travel nursing assignment isn’t during baseball season (late April to October, depending on the team’s postseason schedule), Fenway is open for public tours, as well.
3. EXPLORE CAPE COD
You’ll find much more than city delights in this Massachusetts. The Cape Cod National Seashore is a must-visit for any visitor, with its 40-mile stretch of beautiful sands, picturesque lighthouses, wild cranberry bogs, and abundant wildlife. Hike through the dunes, bike scenic paths that lead to some wonderful swimming holes, and do some people-watching in Provincetown while wandering through its colorful downtown (filled with fudge shops, seafood shacks, book stores, and art galleries). It’s also one of the best spots around for whale-watching tours, with humpback whales, dolphins, seals, and a wealth of other marine life frequently sighted.
4. VISIT THE ROCK IN PLYMOUTH
The village of Plymouth, founded in 1620, is best known as the site of the Pilgrim landing. It’s most famous site is Plymouth Rock, which allegedly marks the very spot these early pioneers landed. While the rock that’s carved with “1620” isn’t much to look at, there are plenty of ways to learn about life during this period while you’re here. Hop aboard a full-scale replica of the Mayflower, which includes tours led by knowledgeable, costumed kinds, and take a trip back in time to the 17th century at Plimouth Plantation, a living history museum.
5. ENJOY A WEEKEND ESCAPE ON MARTHA’S VINEYARD
You may want to take a page from experienced East Coasters by riding the ferry to Martha’s Vineyard for a weekend escape. This island getaway boasts beautiful sandy beaches, unspoiled nature, and a wide range of shopping, dining, and other attractions. Walk the storybook-like streets of the town of Oak Bluff with its vibrantly painted gingerbread cottages, visit the Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary, and release your inner child with a ride on the Flying Horses Carousel, the nation’s oldest carousel, spinning since 1876.
